2013 – Week 3 – Melting in more ways than one…..

Well after that little rule of three false start to my weekly post, here I am with the real thing.

The good news is that having ranted on about that thing that wasn’t really a thing, but became a thing, simply because it was a thing that never happened, and never happened thrice…my grave concerns about what might occur if it didn’t happen on four occasions, were happily set to rest, when the thing that wasn’t a thing except for becoming a thing for not happening thrice, happened.  Enough said.

Interestingly (well not really – but I’m going to say it anyway) the thing that didn’t happen, involved consideration of fourteen things (none of which happened three times).  When it did finally happen, on the fourth occasion, out of the fourteen things, guess how many got positive consideration (which was the aim of the thing)?????  Yep – three got absolute positive consideration, then one by one, three more, also got positive consideration.  Two were thrown out.  Leaving, yes, six remaining things, that will get positive consideration on submission of some more things.  Go figure…..now if that doesn’t do your head in…?

Week three included more issues with trains.  I promise that wont be every week, but they tend to come in little clusters.  This week it was a delay caused by a passenger that was injured.  All good, poor thing, know how that feels – fell on my face on the train last August, I can be patient for someone else.  Then we hear that the passeger had been assaulted, we would be here indefinitely.  Okay – poor passenger.  Still doing okay on the sympathy front.  Then we hear that the person who committed the assault had disappeared.  Not surprised – the police were on their way.  Still doing okay on the sympathy front.  Next…..the assaulted passenger ran away!  Leaving us on a train that was now a crime scene, holding us and loads of other trains up, I was late to work on the day of the long awaited fourth meeting to resolve the fourteen things that didn’t happen thrice already!  Yes I was upset.  Yes I lost sympathy for the assaulted person!  Yes I made value judgements about why they ran away!  Yes! Yes! Yes!  I am a bad person! So sue me!

My positive observation to balance out this failing on my part, was that the sunrise was lovely on that day.  Hard to beat a sky like this!

Having bemoaned the terrible heat last week, this new week of 2013 had a surprise in store – yes – another day of record breaking temperatures.    The hottest on record for my neck of the woods.  If you have an interest in such things, here is a link to some photos published in the press.

By some tiny stroke of luck, I did not have to travel to the office on that day, and thus was saved the awful trip home that afternoon, in 45 plus degrees (Celcius – I believe that’s in the ballpark of 113 Farenheight).  The transport infrastructure collapsed and people were reported to be fainting and vomiting on trains when air conditioning failed and trains were delayed when necessary equipment failed (some due to melting).  People I now too five hours to get home.  It was unbelievably hot.

This was the day we had scheduled for our solar hot water system to be put up – those poor men who had to be up on the roof in that heat.  We bought loads of bottled water for them and hopefully kept the well hydrated.  We are now half way to our new green roof – in the next week or so the solar panels will go up for the rest of our power needs – and our roof will be a totally green scene!

This week also saw me create a dessert for my brother’s birthday – yes – I was doing this in part of the day of 45 degree heat.  A chocolate lemon berry mousse cake….let me tell you – this would have been wonderful if it had set properly.  It was an amazing thing.  The mousse set and was solid in the tin.  The jelly topping I made set and was solid in the tin.  Then it was un-moulded…..it was a triumph!   For mere minutes it was a star!  Then, without any rhyme or reason, it just collapsed in a landslide of lemon and raspberry lava – and became less of a mousse and more of a trifle!  Instead of carving off slices, we had to spoon it into bowls.  I think I know what I need to do to do it better (apart from skipping things that need to stay solid when it’s 45 degrees), so I may do it again one day, but it wasn’t half bad!  My brother happens to cook for a living and while I was attempting to put this mess into bowls – he was filming it with his phone.  He has published it for his viewers to see so I might as well share it here too!

So all in all an interesting week.  Things became things simply by being things that never happened, and never happened three times – then they went and messed everything up by happening.  Sydney melted, again.  Mousse became mess, and white became green (well almost), and as always, the universe sent me one or two things to take photographs of and add some beauty to my week.  I’ll call that a win!
